IT’S NOT EASY BEING GREEN — or so Kermit the Frog tell us, but Nancy Pelosi must find it downright difficult these days. Or she would — if she cared. Let me explain.
April 22, 2008 marked the 28th observance of the Gaia ritual known as ‘Earth Day’ (for those who have never heard of the term ‘Gaia’, think ‘Mother Earth’. Gaia is the name of the Greek primordial goddess. Her Roman equivalent is Terra). Greenies would have all of us believe that the Earth is sentient, and as such deserves our constant affection and caring — even worship. Enter Nancy Pelosi.
Speaker Pelosi released her statement on Gaia Day (oops, I mean ‘Earth Day’), which included the following paragraph:
Since the release of this statement, which contains a so-called Biblical verse, Ms. Pelosi has fallen under fire by Biblical scholars. Now, her office claims the quote is a paraphrase — impossible, since the original press release used ‘quotation marks’, making it appear that the statement cites a real scripture verse. So, I’ve taken a screen shot of the linked page, just in case Ms. Pelosi’s assistants decide to remove the quotes. Here it is (click on the thumbnail below to see the full size image):

Greenies must find Christian consternation amusing, but I find Pelosi’s whole-cloth fabrication of a Bible verse disturbing, if not heretical. She attributes words to Almighty God that He has not uttered. It’s a good thing, she isn’t claiming to be an old testament prophet.
Lest one excuse Ms. Pelosi by claiming she simply goofed up this once, I would point out that she has used this fictional verse many other times:
12/25/2005 — Christmas message to the U.S. House of Representatives: “And as the Bible teaches us, to minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship, to ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us. Let us vote no on this budget as an act of worship and for America’s children.”
2/8/2007 — Speaking to the U.S. House Science and Technology Committee: “The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, ‘To minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.’ On this Earth Day, and every day, let us honor the earth and our future generations with a commitment to fight climate change.”
4/6/2007 — Easter speech to Congress: “In this Holy Week, we are reminded of these words in the Old Testament: ‘To minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.’ We must move quickly to honor God’s creation by reducing greenhouse gas pollution in the United States and around the world.”
4/25/2007 — Speaking to the League of Conservation Voters: “We are now charging ahead to tackle one of humanity’s greatest challenges yet – global warming. We will do this because we hold our children’s future in our hands – not our grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, but our own children. “As it says in the Old Testament, ‘To minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.'”
10/22/2007 — TV interview with PBS host Tavis Smiley, Pelosi blatantly claims the quote is from the book of Isaiah: “I’m raised in a family in Baltimore, Maryland, my father was the mayor. He was in Congress when I was born. And we were devoutly Catholic, very patriotic. We love America. Devoutly Catholic, deeply patriotic, proud of our Italian American heritage, and in our case, staunchly Democratic.
“And that faith was related to our Democratic values. That is to say, the gospel of Matthew: ‘When I was hungry, you gave me to eat.’ You know, the least of our brethren. So that’s an inspiration in the New Testament. In the Old Testament, Isaiah says, ‘To minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the god who made us.'”
Huh? Who has told Pelosi that this false message is anywhere in the Bible? God does not command us to worship creation or to ‘minister to the needs’ of creation. On the contrary, God gave us dominion over the Earth:
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. — Genesis 1:28
Dominion is the English translation of the Hebrew word radah, and it implies ruling, subduing, and even ‘treading down’. The Earth is not sentient — it is not our ‘mother’, and it does not require us to ‘minister to’ its needs. Sheesh.
Nancy, it’s time you opened the real BIble and checked it out.
She and her followers like many in government plus many so called churches are ministers of deceit and delusion, and they who are predestined for condemnation will hear their words and follow them, as God has intended. Thoughs who have been chosen for life will not hear their words or follow after them. In fact the people and chosen ones of God have been given discernment.
For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
She may be reading “The Message” which translates 1 Cor 6:9-10 as such:
“Don’t you realize that this is not the way to live? Unjust people who don’t care about God will not be joining his kingdom. Those who use and abuse each other, use and abuse sex, use and abuse the earth and everything in it, don’t qualify as citizens in God’s kingdom.”
Gone is a prohibition to homosexuality and added in is an environmental message.
