My Mother’s Passing

MY beautiful mother, Ida Ferguson, passed away on Sunday afternoon (May 3). Mom loved the Lord and had been looking forward to meeting Jesus face to face.

My father passed away in the fall of 1996, and Mom lived for over twelve years as a widow. She kept up a brave front, but her heart longed to be with Dad once again. She just kept waiting until God said ‘Come home.’ Now, she’s with Him and with Dad.

Mom’s gone to her eternal home, but we miss her so very much. Derek and I had moved back to Indiana to see more of Mom and my family. We’ll always be grateful for the memories we’ve stored up in these past months. We loved getting together as a family and singing. One day soon, we’ll all be together again–singing God’s praises.

I’ve spent the day working on a DVD of family memories for this weekend’s service. Those pictures bring joy and bittersweet memories, and I often find myself overwhelmed with laughter mixed with tears.

Mom adoped Derek as her official son, and she loved it when he would visit. You can see how much they adored each other in the photo. It was taken at my sister Marty’s wedding–long before Derek grew his beard. Mom loved him with or without a beard–just as I do.

I’ll be taking a little break from websites and computers to grieve and spend time with family. In the meantime, thanks for your prayers and thoughts. May the Lord bless you all. — Sharon

Thanks to all of you for the kind words and supportive thoughts and prayers. The funeral was so wonderful–filled with memories, tears, and lots of laughter. Mom and Dad taught us to see the joy in all situations. And we did. They’re both with the Lord now. One day, you can all meet them!
